My 6 Kits - Some Pics

Postby foxyboi » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:51 pm

Hey Everyone, this is my set up that took me all day to set from 1pm to 11pm.
I was helped by Froglet with this.
Just thought this would be good for other people to get some inspiration for how to set theirs up at home or for people contemplating whether or not to get amBX.

6 sets... damn, must've set you back a bit... I've only got 2 (Premium and Starter), I was thinking of getting a second starter but not sure I'd have anywhere for another wallwasher to go. Although I did recently get a nice new desk and spent a small while figuring out where to put the lights.

For some bizarre reason I thought you had them set up around a laptop at first until I took a proper look at the pics... an aerial view would have been cool as I'm kind of confused as to where the wallwashers are.

That's cool, I didn't expect you to have overlapped them like that... I have 1 behind my monitor and one underneath flipped and laying down which is a pain as the standard Direct Control still reads it as being up the normal way even though I've reversed the left and right light in the lower wallwasher (using the Control Panel).

Here's a couple of pics

Does it make any difference how the lights are set up within a control panel? I spent about two hours altogether trying to line up the sidelights icons so that the left sidelight was on the left and the right icon was on the left, only to find that it was next to impossible to actually do this. In the end, I finally realised that a left sidelight will always be a left sidelight and a right sidelight will always be a right sidelight, whatever its position in that segment. I haven't tried playing with the icons in the amBX control panels which allows you to place the wallwasher as three separae icons, but I assume that it works on the same principle.

it doesn't matter within a section (like north, north-east, east etc) but wallwashers detect as a whole unit in the direct control meaning you can only put the whole wallwasher in a section but in the amBX control panel you can split each light into a section.

Here's an image of my setup via the control panel

Image

my second wallwasher is rotated 180 degrees meaning I had to reverse the lights (you can't do that in the direct control because it treats it as a whole unit). The second walwasher is marked in the sw, s and se sections as R2,M2,L2 (right, middle, left) as opposed to the first wallwasher which is in nw, n and ne shown as L1,M1,R1.

i agree, this is why i like the ambx software instead of the phillips software. You can have individual lights at different positions.
although after 6 sets, trying to set them up was hard, trying to figure out what one was what ont he control panel, that was a fun couple of hours.lol
Hope you enjoy looking at my pics.
Thanks kryss2k for the post

Nice setup Foxyboi,
I can appreciate how much time and effort it must have taken to get that lot setup satisfactorily.

I've only got 2 starter kits (plus a rumble and fan kit that obviously hardly gets much use, the rumble strip is just acting as a wrist rest!), and when I tidied my desk up a few weeks ago agfter buying a new monitor, I took the time to try and make the cabling as tidy as I could without going to extremes, but even a small tidy up took a good hour or so..

What software is that on screen in the first few pics that you're doing the setup with? I've only ever seen the circular/segmented setup screen .

Kinda glad I'ved held off on installing SP1 on Win 7 so far now, I wouldn't have been happy if the Ambx kit had stopped working ! (now if I could just get Renegade to run with the Ambx programs in the background ..)

Yeah Thank you, it did take quite a while to setup. The cables are the worst. especially as i have OCD. it really annoys me untidy cables.
i was using ambx creator i believe. the amount of dots on the screen had no correlation to how many lights i had by the way. That was just the way to make as bright a light as possible from all the lights.

Sp1 didnt make my ambx stop working, it made everything else go wrong for some reason. volume mixer, my computer, itunes, etc etc. basically all the things microsoft and apple makes that use a library routine that SP1 must of deleted. I have no idea why.
You can install SP1 though, it may work with you. If it doesnt just simply uninstall it.
Have fun
