A Brief History of amBX

2008: amBX UK Limited was created from a spin out of the development unit from Philips Electronics R&D where amBX technology had been originally invented and developed.

2009: While developing the amBX software for both the professional and consumer markets, we struck our first licensing deal and increased our presence in our chosen markets.

2010: amBX increasingly used by lighting professional to bring a real difference to control of LED lighting in a number of events and projects.  amBIENT XC product launched.

2011: First projects in the AV market and integration with Control 4, Crestron and AMX. Largest amBX controlled installation opened in London to good commercial success. First iOS App launched. Cyborg gaming lights go on sale for the first time.

2012: amBX technology successfully installed in hospitality, architectural, events, retail and AV sectors. First work with film makers and more extensive professional lighting projects.

2013: XC Colourscaper iPad app launched and first Light-Scene Live installation. First film deal done for a new production with amBX and the team working on a bigger, better version of its slighting control software.


The Team

James Theobald - Chief Executive Officer

James has many years experience in LED lighting and has developed a number of businesses in the sector.  

Neil MacDonald - Chief Operations Officer

Neil lead the team which span amBX out of Philips.  He specialises in taking new technologies to market and has a successful track record in B2B and consumer markets. He was previously CEO of AIM-listed Yoomedia PLC, Marketing Director at the Dixons Stores Group, VP at Fujitsu and GM of BT’s internet businesses.

David Eves - Chief Technology Officer & amBX Co-Inventor

David has contributed to more than a hundred patent proposals during 18 years with research at Philips on a range of projects. David is responsible for the creative direction of amBX and works closely with licensing and major project partners.

Dr Richard Cole - Development Director & amBX Co-Inventor

With a 26-year research career at Philips, Richard has co-authored more than twenty-five filed patents and takes care of all the software and apps.

Marcus Starling - Business Development

Marcus brings his extensive expertise from event, film and television production to projects for amBX clients.

Lynsey Evans - Office Manager

Lynsey makes the company work from day to day! Takes care of all admin and looks after suppliers as well as customers.
