Why is integration in buildings important?

One of the largest contributors to a building’s energy consumption is its HVAC system, followed by lighting. Typically, HVAC represents 45% of commercial buildings’ energy usage, of which 30% is usually wasted. Current HVAC systems are using and demanding more energy than required to maintain occupant comfort due to their reactive designs and lack of data integration. Whereas globally, lighting contributes around 20% to office energy use (CIBSE 2010).

The increasing convergence of IT and OT systems creates complexities as various protocols are used, different vendors are specified, both new and old systems are in operation, and multiple smart devices are utilised. Data silos are, therefore, a major issue in retrofit projects, and it can cost vast amounts of money to unify everything and get all devices and systems communicating seamlessly to a single source where insights can be gained about energy, space utilisation, occupant comfort and more.

amBX’s innovative software can integrate this growing complexity of systems and help key stakeholders get value from the building data generated. Discover more about our integration service here.

Project Examples

We have recently partnered with a large Middle East-based conglomerate involved in construction and facilities management. They have multiple projects around the world, and we are developing solutions to enable amBX’s software to be the intelligence that controls their HVAC solution. Our custom-designed dashboards provide a user-friendly front end, and our open architecture makes integration with other building services easy. Click here to learn more.

MIDDLE EAST-BASED CONGLOMERATE DELIVERS ADDITIONAL VALUE TO THE FACILITY MANAGEMENT AND CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Molex’s CoreSync IoT network platform is powered by amBX. We enable integration with BMS in many of their projects.

Molex is a leading supplier of connectors and interconnected components, and they required a software-based control platform that can integrate with their hardware and power their CoreSync solution.

It is used to enable smart buildings and smart campuses to orchestrate disparate building systems such as PoE lighting, meeting room management, audio-visual, powered shades, and building automation systems.

We have worked with Molex since 2014. This long-standing partnership has enabled hundreds of smart new builds to be constructed and existing buildings to be upgraded, future-proofing them and making them efficient and more sustainable.

This software collaboration unifies two highly sophisticated platforms creating a reliable, quality solution that makes deployment, management and monitoring of buildings easy.

IoT TRANSFORMATION IN GEORGIA-PACIFIC HEADQUARTERS

At amBX, we offer bespoke integration services, UIs for data visualisation, sophisticated lighting algorithms, cloud connectivity and emergency lighting control. We specialise in bridging the gap between lighting and other building systems and help building platforms see the additional value lighting logic can have, e.g. through circadian lighting to support occupants’ health and wellbeing.

Our aim is to help buildings reach net zero goals by improving energy efficiency through integration. Discover more about how we enable energy-efficient buildings here.

amBX delivers:

  • Open architecture and compatibility with most building and lighting protocols

  • amBX is a cost-effective way of linking multiple systems, acting as a middleware layer that transfers data

  • Constant development to ensure we remain compliant and compatible with future protocols
