Powerhouse receives BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ accreditation

As a result of the building's energy-efficient nature, Powerhouse Brattørkaia has been awarded a BREEAM Outstanding accreditation, the highest possible ranking. BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method. It recognises and reflects the value in higher performing assets across the built environment life cycle.

Powerhouse Brattørkaia is the biggest new energy-positive buildings in Norway, representing a collaboration in the development of energy-positive buildings.

As the world’s northernmost energy-positive building, the Powerhouse (based in Trondheim) aims to set a new standard for the construction of buildings: to produce more energy than it consumes over its lifespan, including construction and demolition. This also includes the embodied energy in the materials used to construct the building.

amBX worked with the Powerhouse to ensure their lighting system was as energy efficient as possible and ensure it is a comfortable space for the building's occupants. Utilising solar power, amBX SmartCore harvests natural energy and only uses it when necessary. Sensors are used to monitor occupancy and the level of natural daylight to the highest degree of detail. This means that light is automated and, most importantly, is not wasted.
